Isle of Wight jewellery-maker, and previous sailing student of Ella's, Kim, has designed this gorgeous polar bear pendant in support of the campaign. On her website she states:
"Designed to help Ella achieve her goal, I will be donating the profit from the sale of each Polar Bear pendant to 'Ella In the Arctic'. This pendant has been hand made in my Isle of Wight Studio from sterling silver, using traditional jewellery techniques. The bear is 2.5cm long and 2cm high. It comes hanging on an 18in/45cm sterling silver chain and nestling in a pretty gift box, first class postage is free.
It makes an ideal gift, especially with Christmas on the horizon!
This design is a limited edition in support of 'Ella In the Arctic'."
Thank you, Kim!
Artist Anthony Garratt is creating an amazing installation inspired by the Arctic circumnavigation.
Anthony is located in South Devon, and has exhibited extensively in public and commercial galleries. His eclectic, self-initiated public installations have garnered much National press interest.
Anthony is working on a concept for a "floating exhibition of large, double-sided paintings which switch sides on each tide, along the River Dart", and intends to paint "giant, 5 metre long depictions of monumental, melting calves of ice, and mount them on specifically designed structures (..) to float on dedicated swinging moorings. The reverse of the iceberg paintings will depict an empty seascape, and as the structures turn on each switch of the tide, the iceberg disappears."
Collaborating with Anthony on this spectacular installation is a huge privilege, and I'm honoured he felt inspired enough by my circumnavigation to reach out. In support of his project, I will be sending him exclusive photos for his use only, from S/Y Yeva on our Northern Voyage, of both open ocean seascapes and icebergs I encounter along the route.
Anthony writes on the website dedicated to our collaboration: "It is likely that Ella will be the last person to witness these particular icebergs, so the project stands as a poetic nod to the demise of these geographical marvels and also a tribute to the spirit of adventure."
He has also built a website just for this project - suitably named "The Melt".
