Ella intends to complete a full circumnavigation of the Arctic Circle, above the 66.5 degrees North of latitude that encompasses the Arctic Ocean.
The exact route will depend on the weather and sea conditions closer to the departure in 2024, but will encompass heading into the Arctic near Norway, and completing an anti-clockwise circumnavigation, passing through the NorthWest Passage late August 2024, before crossing the original start point near Norway, and then returning to the UK.
Here you can see a rough outline of the potential routes depending on the weather and sea ice conditions at the time. Once lines have been slipped from Portsmouth, Ella intends to not set foot ashore again until the boat is returned to Portsmouth after completion of the Arctic circumnavigation.
Ella started sailing small dinghies as a young girl - a passion she was passed down by her father.
She has been to the Med, the Caribbean, the Atlantic and the Pacific, on boats and as a diver, and has seen first-hand how at risk these oceans are.
Ella's passion for the ocean is the driving force behind this phenomenal expedition she's undertaking.
